Biography
| Artist Statement A painting can be many things. It is the language of the artist and it cries out to the viewer to decipher it’s meaning. My body of work is, in many ways, a reflection of my youth; an attempt to recapture some of the wonder the world held for me as a child. When preparing a piece I try to look at my subject with the simplicity of a child who doesn’t question whether stars can talk or robots cry; they simply do. I want the viewer to have a bittersweet experience when viewing my work. I want to give them a glimpse of an idea so fragile that even a breath could destroy, and leave them with the same feeling that you get when you wake and still remember your dream but can feel it fading even now. Often working in trasparent washes I build an ethereal veil between two worlds. With a carefully chosen palette, sometimes working a grandiose environment, sometimes a simple moment in time, I place the viewer into a world slightly unfamiliar. Each piece is a story, an adventure just vague enough to become personal. |
